Annual Independence Day Fundraiser Picnic
Since July 4th weekend, 2011, FORI has hosted a cookout and Silent Auction on Rock Island on Independence Day weekend. Burgers, brats and hotdogs are available for purchase at the picnic and a full meal of sandwich, chips, beverage and dessert is offered to park visitors for a fabulous price. It is the only day each year that food is available for purchase at Rock Island State Park.
A Silent Auction of donated items happens all day in the Boathouse too. Visitors can bid on maritime, outdoors, camping, picnic items, toys, artwork, crafts, gift cards, and so much more that fills the entire Viking Hall. At the end of the auction winning bidders take home with prizes and all proceeds go towards park projects.
FORI sells park merchandise and souvenirs on the lawn in front of the Boathouse all day as well. Clearance items and discounted merchandise joins the seasonal items so it is a great time to purchase your park memorabilia and attire. All proceeds from merchandise sales go towards park projects.
This event is the only fundraiser FORI hosts and it has brought in a few thousand dollars each year. FORI Board members and other volunteers make it happen with the assistance of the park staff and the Washington Island Ferry Line.
