Rag Rugs for the Lighthouse
Some Washington Islanders spent the winter making rugs for the Lighthouse. They were completed in time for the May 2005 Lighthouse Walk Weekend and have added much warmth and charm to the museum rooms.
On May 11th, they delivered the finished rugs to the Rock Island Dock in Jackson Harbor, where Kirby Foss and the Friends of Rock Island met them to receive the gifts. Bill Olson photographed the ceremony for publication in the local newspaper.
The rugs were put in their proper places on Spring Cleaning weekend and were enjoyed by all who toured the Pottawatomie Light Station on Door County Lighthouse Walk Weekend 2005.
Grace Ann Carpenter sent a heart felt 'Thank You' to the Washington Island rug weavers on behalf of the FORI Board and Rock Island State Park staff.
