Battling “Red Flag” Conditions and Expo Delays

Running 6.2 miles in the deep South in July is never easy, but this year’s race organizers had to be extra cautious. The Atlanta Track Club officially started the race under “Red Flag” conditions due to dangerous heat and humidity levels. Officials strongly encouraged participants to slow their pace, prioritize their health over personal records, and make use of the multiple water spray and cooling stations along the route.

The weather had already caused some chaos before race day even began. On Friday afternoon, severe thunderstorms and heavy rain forced an unexpected evacuation of the Peachtree Health & Fitness Expo at Lenox Square, temporarily delaying runners trying to pick up their race numbers.

The “We the Peaches” T-Shirt Revealed

For the tens of thousands of everyday runners and walkers, crossing the finish line is all about securing the legendary finisher T-shirt.

As runners completed the race today, the 2026 design was finally unveiled to the public. Titled “We the Peaches,” the winning design was created by Marietta native and SCAD alumna Dyan Szall. According to Szall, the artwork champions the inclusivity of freedom and justice for all, celebrating the massive community of runners, supporters, and volunteers that take over Peachtree Road every July 4th.

Congratulations to all the finishers who braved the heat today to keep this beloved Atlanta tradition alive!
