Privacy policy

Last updated: 26 August 2026. This policy explains what Fori.us collects, why, and how to control it. Plain English, because a privacy policy nobody can read protects nobody.

The short version

  • You can read every guide on this site without giving us anything.
  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We use analytics to see which guides are read, and third-party advertising, which uses cookies.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising, and you can ask us to delete anything we hold about you.

Who we are

Fori.us ("Fori", "we", "us") is an independent publisher of informational guides. For any privacy question, write to hello@fori.us with PRIVACY in the subject line.

What we collect

Information you give us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We keep it only as long as needed to deal with your message and to maintain a record of corrections.

Information collected automatically

Like nearly every website, our hosting provider records standard server log data: IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and the pages you visited with timestamps. This is used for security, abuse prevention and aggregate statistics.

Analytics

We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which guides are useful, how people arrive, and where pages fail. We look at aggregate patterns, not individuals, and we do not attempt to identify you.

Advertising and cookies

This site carries advertising served by third-party networks, including Google and its partners.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

Where required by law, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies, and you can withdraw that consent at any time through your browser settings or the consent control on this site.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not pass your details to attorneys, brokers, lenders, landlords or agents as sales leads. We do not run newsletters that share your address with third parties. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export the personal information we hold, to object to certain processing, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as those terms are defined by your local law — including under the EU and UK GDPR and California's privacy legislation.

To exercise any of these, email hello@fori.us with PRIVACY in the subject. We will respond within the period your law requires, and within 30 days in any case. We will not charge you or treat you differently for exercising a right.

How long we keep things

Server logs are retained for a short period for security purposes and then discarded or aggregated. Email correspondence is kept while it is relevant, and correction records are kept indefinitely because they are part of our public accountability. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. We hold very little personal data by design, which is the most effective security measure available to us. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not ask you to send us sensitive information — never email us your Social Security number, passport number, bank details or immigration documents.

Our guides link to government agencies, regulators and other organisations. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for their practices. Links are provided for verification, not as endorsements.

International transfers

Fori is operated for a United States audience, and the servers and service providers we use may process data in the United States and other countries. If you access the site from outside the US, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the US.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page. Material changes will be noted prominently. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
