Terms of use & disclaimer
Last updated: 26 August 2026. By using Fori.us you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
The disclaimer that matters most
Fori is information, not advice
Fori is an independent publisher. We are not a law firm, an immigration consultancy, a bank, a lender, a tax preparer, a licensed financial adviser, an insurance broker, a real-estate agent or a government agency, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting on behalf of any US federal, state or local government body.
Nothing on this site is legal, immigration, tax, financial, insurance or real-estate advice. Reading Fori creates no attorney-client, adviser-client or fiduciary relationship of any kind. Do not act, or refrain from acting, on the basis of anything published here without taking advice from a qualified professional who knows your circumstances.
Accuracy and change
We research carefully and cite primary sources, and we still cannot promise that everything here is complete, current or correct for your situation. Laws, agency procedures, fees, thresholds and processing times change frequently, and many of the rules described on this site differ from state to state and city to city.
Every guide carries a last-updated date and links to the government source behind it. Always verify the current position with the responsible agency before you act. If you find an error, please tell us — see our editorial policy for how corrections work.
Permitted use
You may read, print and share our guides for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may quote a short extract with clear attribution and a link to the original page.
You may not republish substantial portions of our content, translate it, or use it to train commercial models without written permission; scrape the site in a way that burdens it; remove or obscure attribution, dates or advertising; or present our material as your own or as the output of a government agency. For republication or translation requests, write to hello@fori.us — we usually say yes.
Intellectual property
All original text, layout, code, illustrations and graphics on Fori.us are our property or used with permission, and are protected by copyright. The Fori name and mark are ours. Government forms, publications and agency names referenced in our guides remain the property of the respective agencies and are referred to for identification and educational purposes only.
Third-party links and advertising
We link to government agencies, regulators and other external sites for verification. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement.
This site displays advertising served by third-party networks. Advertisements are selected by those networks, not by us. We do not endorse advertised products or services, we have no affiliate or referral relationship with the companies we write about, and any dealings you have with an advertiser are strictly between you and them.
Limitation of liability
The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of accuracy, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Fori and anyone associated with it will not be liable for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or otherwise — arising out of your use of, or reliance on, this site or any content on it, including any decision you take about immigration, taxes, credit, housing, employment or the transfer of money.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability. Where that is the case, the limitations above apply to the maximum extent the law allows.
Your responsibilities
You agree not to use this site unlawfully, to attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, to interfere with its operation, or to use it to harass or defraud anybody. Please do not send us sensitive personal information — Social Security numbers, passport numbers, bank details or immigration documents — by email.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when they last changed, and continued use after a change means acceptance. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the site is operated, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
